Jillian Lauren-Shriner, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, is facing an attempted murder charge after firing at an officer, police say.

On Thursday, April 10, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE that the author, 51, fired her weapon at an officer during an incident on Tuesday, April 8.

“Our investigation revealed evidence such as a shell casing and video footage showing she repeatedly ignored police commands to disarm and that she fired her weapon at LAPD officers. She was subsequently booked for attempted murder of a peace officer,” LAPD spokesperson Jennifer Forkish told PEOPLE.

In audio obtained by PEOPLE, an officer can be heard telling dispatchers, “She has a gun in her hand.”

“Female suspect’s going to be wanted for ADW [assault with a deadly weapon] on the PO [police officer],” an officer can be heard saying. An officer also requests a response for a “female suspect, gunshot victim.” The suspect is described as wearing “long gray sleeved shirt, black pants, armed with gun.”

Her arrest stems from an incident two days earlier, in which police were involved in a manhunt to locate three suspects from a hit-and-run accident. The suspects fled to her residential Eagle Rock neighborhood, police said previously.

“As the officers were in the rear yard of that residence, they observed a female, later identified as 51-year-old Jillian Shriner, in the yard of a neighboring residence armed with a handgun,” the LAPD said in a press release on Wednesday, April 9. “The officers ordered Shriner to drop the handgun numerous times; however, she refused.”

Lauren-Shriner had no involvement in the hit-and-run, but police alleged she pointed her firearm at them, leading to her being shot once in the shoulder by a responding officer.

She allegedly went into her home after the shoot-out, but then exited the residence and surrendered.

Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department transported her to a nearby hospital for medical attention, and she was then absentee booked for attempted murder on $1 million bail, per a report from the LAPD. She was released on $1 million bond, police said earlier Thursday.

One of the three suspects was cited for the hit-and-run and then released from police custody while the other two individuals remain at large.

Lauren-Shriner married the Island in the Sun musician, 59, in Hawaii in 2005.

She is an author and published an autobiography, Some Girls: My Life in a Harem, in 2010. The book chronicled her life from 1992 to 1995 as a paid female guest of Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei. In March, Lauren-Shriner announced on Instagram that she was diagnosed with cancer and recovering from a hysterectomy when Tuesday’s incident occurred.

Weezer, who recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of their Blue Album, announced their Voyage to the Blue Planet Tour in May 2024. Lauren-Shriner’s police-involved shooting and subsequent murder charge came just days ahead of the band’s Coachella set on Saturday, April 12.

It is unclear if she has retained an attorney who can speak on her behalf.
