A North Carolina man is facing murder charges in connection with the death of a woman who was declared missing before her body was found in the woods.

As PEOPLE previously reported, on Saturday, Jan. 4, Heather Williams, 25, of Fayetteville, was seen on her family’s Ring camera leaving her home and getting into a car, the Fayetteville Police Department said in a statement.

Her family said they didn’t recognize the light-colored sedan with a sunroof that picked her up that night, just before 10 p.m.

Williams was considered to be endangered because she suffered from cognitive impairment with limited speech after being hit by a car in 2015, WRAL reported.

Six days later, on Friday, Jan. 10, police found her body in a wooded area.

On Thursday, Jan. 16, Fayetteville Police announced that detectives had arrested Tyrell Siermons, 30, of Fayetteville, and charged him with first-degree murder in connection with Williams’ death and disappearance.

Police did not release any details about how Williams and Siermons allegedly knew each other or came in contact. Police said they were able to track down Siermons through the car he drove, according to Fox News.

The Fayetteville Police did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request to confirm that Siermons is the person with whom she was texting.

Siermons has an extensive criminal history, according to Cumberland County court records.

He is also facing an out-of-state probation charge from Jan. 16 — the same day he was charged with allegedly murdering Williams, Fox News reports.

Siermons is currently being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond. It is unclear whether he has retained an attorney who can speak on his behalf.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact Detective E. Alrafai at (910) 723-0327 or Crimestoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477). Crimestoppers information can also be submitted electronically, by visiting http://fay-nccrimestoppers.org.
