  • Angelynn “Angie” Mock, a former news anchor and reporter in St. Louis, was arrested on Friday, Oct. 31, after being accused of killing Anita Avers, 80, at their Wichita, Kan., home

  • According to an affidavit, Mock allegedly called 911 dispatchers and told them that her “mother tried to kill her, so she stabbed her in return”

  • “Next to Anita on the bed, [an officer] located multiple kitchen style knives and a cheese grater, laid out on a pillow,” states the affidavit

A police affidavit sheds new light on former news anchor Angelynn “Angie” Mock’s mental state before she allegedly killed her mother.

Mock, a former news anchor and reporter in St. Louis, was arrested on Friday, Oct. 31, after she allegedly fatally stabbed Anita Avers, 80, at their Wichita, Kan. home, police allege.

Mock, 47, is charged with first-degree murder and is being held on $1 million bond, according to county records.

According to a Nov. 4 probable cause affidavit filed by a Wichita Police Department detective and obtained by PEOPLE, Mock allegedly called 911 dispatchers and told them that her “mother tried to kill her, so she stabbed her in return.”

When officers arrived at the home just before 8 a.m., they found Mock standing outside bleeding, holding a towel.

Officers discovered Anita on her bed, suffering from numerous stab wounds to her head, face and torso.

“Next to Anita on the bed, [an officer] located multiple kitchen style knives and a cheese grater, laid out on a pillow,” states the affidavit. “All the utensils had blood on them…the top sheet had at least 12 holes in the top half of the sheet, consistent with those caused by a knife.”

When an officer asked what had happened, Mock allegedly responded that she went to her mother’s room “to talk and saw her sharpening knives,” according to the affidavit. She alleged her mother then came after her with a knife.

“Angelynn was stronger so she pushed her back,” the affidavit states. “Her mother then said, ‘I know you’re f—ing Jesus Christ,’ so she backed away…Angelynn said her mother started spewing venom at me out of her f—ing mouth,’ so she had to stab her to save herself.”

Mock allegedly later told authorities she went to talk to her mother about an upcoming job interview with a television station and found her mother “sharpening knives with bigger knives,” the affidavit states.

She allegedly claimed her mother chased her around the house. “She said ‘I had to kill her, she wasn’t going to stop,'” per the affidavit. “Angelynn first said she stabbed first but later said her mother stabbed first.”

Mock was taken to the hospital and was treated for lacerations to her left and right hand and inner right arm.

Anita’s husband Barry allegedly told officers that Mock moved in with the couple four or five years earlier after she was laid off because of “an explosive situation involving alcohol.”

Anita allegedly encouraged her daughter to seek treatment with a psychiatrist at the time, per Barry’s statement to police.

“Barry remembered Angelynn was originally diagnosed with bipolar disorder but was later revised to schizoaffective disorder,” the affidavit claims. “To his knowledge, Angelynn was on medication, but he did not know what type and only assumed she took it as prescribed. She also had angry outbursts, but he never felt she was violent or felt threatened.”

Barry allegedly told officers that his stepdaughter had a “explosive outburst” a few years ago that required hospitalization for about two weeks.

He recalled another outburst three or four weeks before the killing where she allegedly yelled at the family during a card game. “She accused the family of hating her and she said she hated everyone,” according to the affidavit.

Barry said he heard Mock in the past making statements such as, “They’re all robots” and “They’re not real people.”

According to the affidavit, after Mock was treated at the hospital, she was taken to the police station for an interview.

“Angelynn made multiple statements, talking to herself, where she believed her mother was the devil. She said, ‘I’d kill that b—- to have my mom back any day. I don’t even know who she is anymore. I know, I believe she is the devil.”

According to KWCH, a competency hearing was ordered for Mock last week.
