Police in Virginia have reportedly identified the teenager who shot and killed a local actor before killing himself last weekend.
On Friday, Aug. 8, the Richmond Police Department (RPD) said 19-year-old Richmond resident Destin Grady was the man who fatally shot Adam Turck, according to local ABC affiliate WRIC, NBC affiliate WWBT and CBS affiliate WTRV.
The identification came days after Turck, a beloved actor remembered as a “hero,” was killed while attempting to de-escalate a domestic dispute, according to previous reports from WRIC, WTVR and WWBT.
A RPD spokesperson did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for further information on Saturday, Aug. 9.
The RPD initially responded to a domestic call at the 2000 block of East Grace Street on Aug. 2 around 10:17 a.m. local time, when they found two unresponsive men with life-threatening gunshot wounds, per WRIC.
According to WTVR, which cited officials with the RPD, police said a man, since identified as Grady, fatally shot Turck before shooting and killing himself. Both men were then transported to a nearby hospital, with WRIC reporting that Grady was in a confrontation with a woman on the sidewalk as Turck walked by with his dog and attempted to intervene.
Turck’s family told WTVR in a statement that, ahead of his 35th birthday, he’d be “donating his organs to help save the lives of others.”
“That’s what heroes do — they save the lives of others,” the statement read in part. “Adam put his life on the line to protect someone in need, and we will forever remember him for this sacrifice. Although we cannot go into details on the events of this past Saturday due to the nature of the event, we were told that if Adam had not been there, the person he intervened to help would not be with us today.”
Following the fatal shooting last week, friends, family and local community members gathered at the local Firehouse Theater in Richmond to celebrate Turck’s life and career, per WRIC.
The Virginia Repertory Theatre wrote in a social media statement that Turck was “a light, both on stage and in every space he entered.”

“His artistry, integrity and fierce compassion touched so many of us,” the theater wrote. “This is a profound loss we share as a community.”
After being nominated for multiple Richmond Theatre Community Circle Awards and named the Best Actor in a Play in 2018 for his role in Hand to God, Turck was next preparing to play Dracula in the upcoming Dracula: A Comedy of Horrors at the Richmond Triangle Players theater, per WWBT.
Tequila & Deadlifts gym owner Kerith Rae told WWBT that the world is “a duller, darker place without him.”
“I cannot explain the size of the hole that has been left, not just in our gym community or our theater communities, but in the fabric of this world to lose somebody like Adam,” Rae said. “He’s the kind of person people write about in books because they want to be that good, and he just was.”
