Video footage of police arresting Luigi Mangione at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania was shown in court during a pre-trial hearing.
Mangione watched intently as the video played in a Manhattan courtroom on Monday, Dec. 1, during an evidence hearing in his state murder case.
Video showed police approaching Mangione on the morning of his arrest. Officers began questioning him as he sat at a table. Eventually, more police officers arrived and surrounded Mangione, who was subsequently frisked.
It culminated with Mangione being taken into handcuffs more than 30 minutes after police officers arrived at the McDonald’s.
During the encounter, several officers questioned Mangione, whose picture was taken.
Mangione is accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on the streets of midtown Manhattan last year.
Mangione is facing nine charges at the state level, including second-degree murder, the most serious of the nine after two terrorism charges were dropped. He still faces terrorism charges at the federal level and could be sentenced to death if convicted.
Mangione has entered not guilty pleas.

A multi-day manhunt for the alleged shooter came to an end with the arrest of Mangione at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pa.
Mangione has been incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since he was extradited to New York after his arrest in December 2024.
