At a July 25 news conference, Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper said officers entered the home and found a female “on the floor, between the living room and dining room, lying in blood,” before noticing a male subject in the living room, with a SKS-style assault rifle beside him.
Another victim was found in the hallway bathroom and a further deceased female was discovered in a bedroom near the bathroom.
The male had a “slight pulse,” and was airlifted to hospital where he later died.
“It appears the shooter first shot the female in the living room, dining room area, then shot the female in the bathroom, and then shot the female in the bedroom,” Leeper told reporters. “He eventually returned to the living room where he shot himself in the head.”
Leeper said the 5-year-old girl was in the back of the house when she heard a gunshot, walked down the hallway and found one of the victims on the floor. “Another female grabbed her, put her in the bathroom,” Leeper said.
That woman was then shot and Leeper said the girl “got blood splatter on her.”
“This child now faces a future without the warmth and loving support of her family, and we are committed to ensuring she receives the care and love she needs to heal from this traumatic incident,” according to the GoFundMe page.
The family is asking for help to cover the cremation expenses and to help support Marissa’s daughter.
