  • La’Shaun Quintae Holloway, 27, of Virginia Beach, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for killing his 2-month-old baby
  • In 2019, he beat her when she cried while he was playing Xbox, prosecutors said
  • She was placed on life support for several days, but later died, say authorities

A Virginia man convicted of killing his two-month-old baby while playing Xbox has learned his fate.

La’Shaun Quintae Holloway, 27, of Virginia Beach, was sentenced on Oct. 6 to 50 years in prison, with 20 years suspended, leaving him to serve a 30-year sentence, according to a statement from the Commonwealth’s Attorney for the city of Virginia Beach.

Holloway was found guilty of second-degree murder and child abuse in August in connection with the beating death of his baby daughter, whose name has not been publicly disclosed.

Holloway was taking care of the baby on Dec. 20, 2019 when family members “heard him yelling obscenities over an Xbox headset,” the Commonwealth’s Attorney said in a statement.

“Family members heard him yelling obscenities at the baby over an Xbox headset,” the Commonwealth’s Attorney said in a statement.

The baby stopped crying and shortly after, was found unresponsive. She was rushed to a local hospital where she was put on life support.

She died several days later after suffering from serious injuries, including 26 rib fractures in various stages of healing, bruising on her chest wall, a fractured clavicle, a skull fracture, bruising to her skull around her eyes and an extensive brain bleed, according to the Commonwealth’s Attorney.

The injuries were the result of abusive head trauma, according to medical professionals.

Holloway was previously convicted of child abuse and neglect in Chesapeake, which stemmed from an incident in which he was also convicted of felony eluding police, felony hit and run and DUI.

Holloway’s sentence exceeded the high-end of the Virginia State Sentencing Guidelines, which recommended a sentence of no more than 23 years and 8 months.

“In arguing for this high sentence, the Commonwealth referenced the significant injuries, age of the baby, and the brutality of the murder,” the statement said.  “Judge [Afshin] Farashahi agreed that those factors warranted a sentence above the guidelines.”
