Utah Woman Accused of Murdering Sleeping Husband Texted Dad Urgent Request Days Before Killing

The Utah mother of three charged with killing her sleeping husband after he allegedly discovered she was having an extramarital affair texted her father just days before his death asking for thousands of dollars. 

Jennifer Gledhill allegedly texted her father “I need 13K by Friday,” two days before authorities say her husband Matthew Johnson was killed, according to a recently unsealed search warrant obtained by Fox 13, ABC4 and KUTV. 

According to the court documents obtained by the outlets, Thomas Gledhill used Venmo to transfer $1,000 to his daughter on the same day, Sept. 19, 2024. In October, Thomas and his wife Rosalie were arrested on multiple felony counts of obstruction of justice for allegedly helping Jennifer clean up the home where authorities believe she shot Johnson. 

The search warrant didn’t specify why she needed the money, according to the outlets.

Officials filed the search warrants in an attempt to examine Johnson’s vehicle, Gledhill’s Venmo account and the Venmo account of her parents and several bank accounts, per ABC4. Authorities were seeking location data about the devices connected to the vehicle, the search warrant said.

Authorities still haven’t found Johnson’s body, according to a probable cause statement obtained by PEOPLE. He was last seen on Sept. 20, 2024.

According to court documents, on Sept. 21, 2024, an unnamed informant who claimed he was having an affair with Gledhill alleged she told him that she got into an argument with Johnson after he “yelled at her because he knew she had been sleeping with someone else.”

The informant alleged to authorities that Gledhill admitted to shooting Johnson in the head with his own gun as he slept in their shared bed. She also allegedly told the unnamed informant that she took Johnson’s body, put it in a storage container, dug a hole and buried him in a shallow grave, court documents said.

Gledhill was charged in October 2024 in connection with the disappearance and death of her husband. She has pleaded not guilty to nine felony charges, including first-degree murder and was recently denied bail, according to court documents reviewed by PEOPLE. 

Gledhill’s trial has been set for December 2025, according to ABC4.
