A United States Postal Service (USPS) driver is accused of trying to hit a child with his truck after delivering a package to the incorrect address.
According to reports from WALA, WKRG and the Pensacola News Journal, 41-year-old William White has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, petit theft and criminal mischief after he allegedly tried to run over a 10-year-old boy on Saturday, Dec. 27.
A report from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) alleged that White dropped a package off at the wrong address on Kingfisher Way in Escambia County, Fla.
“The child, whose family owns that residence, saw the package was meant for a different address,” FHP officials said, per the outlets. The 10-year-old then grabbed the package and put it on his electric scooter so he could take it to the correct address.
FHP alleged that White saw the boy with the package and thought that he was stealing it.
“White then purposely drove the USPS vehicle towards the child and ran over the scooter,” the FHP’s report said, per the outlets. “The child was able to get into the nearby yard prior to the scooter being hit.”
FHP said White then grabbed the scooter from underneath the USPS vehicle and placed it on the truck, driving off after yelling at the child.
White then allegedly drove his USPS vehicle toward the boy, running over his scooter after he made it into a nearby yard.

Officials said White then took the scooter and placed it in his vehicle. He started to drive away, but a relative of the boy followed the USPS truck to confront him, leading to White throwing the scooter into another nearby yard.
According to the outlets, White was interviewed and arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 31, when he arrived at work.
