NEED TO KNOW

  • There are photos of “people engaged in sexual acts” among the images the House Oversight Committee collected from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate, per Rep. Suhas Subramanyam
  • Rep. Robert Garcia echoed that “some are very disturbing [images] of women and their conditions”
  • House Democrats released two batches of photos on Dec. 12, with Garcia promising more will come to light

As House Democrats continue to release photos collected from late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s estate, a congressman has confirmed that some of the images depict people engaged in sexual acts.

After the Democrats on the House Oversight Committee shared a selection of photos from Epstein’s estate — more than 95,000 photos have reportedly been collected, in total — on Friday, Dec. 12, Virginia Rep. Suhas Subramanyam confirmed on CNN’s The Arena with Kasie Hunt that some of the unreleased images depict “a lot of people” engaging in sexual acts.

Asked if the committee has pictures of “people engaged in sexual acts” among the collected images, the Democratic congressman told Hunt that “as part of this release, yes, there are pictures of people engaged in sexual acts.”

The CNN political correspondent also inquired about whether men other than Epstein are shown engaging in these acts, to which Subramanyam answered: “We’re going through that.” The congressman said that lawmakers are “not really quite sure yet who is who,” but added, “Certainly, there are a lot of people involved, though, in some of these acts.”

The first batch of 19 images show more than 10 prominent men — including Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Steve Bannon and the former Prince Andrew — in a variety of settings through the years. The same day as the initial release, House Democrats released 70 more images, which depict different angles of previously released photos from Epstein’s private island, per CNN.

None of the photographs released so far depict any sexual misconduct or individuals believed to be minors, according to CNN.

Hunt also asked Subramanyam about what “disturbing” — which has been widely used to discuss the Epstein photos, both released and unreleased — means in this context. “I mean, we’re talking about sexual acts involving, potentially, minors and certainly victims, too, in very suggestive, compromising positions,” the Virginia Democrat said. “Just to leave it at that.”

The congressman also offered comments on some of the figures depicted in the newly released images. Asked if the Clinton family was given a warning ahead of the release, Subramanyam said: “We are not looking to shield anyone, Democrat or Republican. We are finding the evidence, and we’re putting it out.”

“The only people we’re really consulting with, when it comes to whether or not it’s appropriate to put something out, is victims,” Subramanyam added. (The House Oversight Committee covered the faces of several women in the newly shared photos for privacy reasons.)

“If the Clintons have information, we want to hear it. We welcome them to come testify before a committee, clear their names,” he said, adding that the same is true for Gates, the former Prince Andrew and any others pictured in the photographs.

Added Subramanyam: “We want to hear from them all about what they know when it came to Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes.”

California Rep. Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, also addressed the reportedly “disturbing” photos collected from Epstein’s estate in a Friday interview.

Appearing on CNN’s The Source with Kaitlan Collins on Dec. 12, Garcia told the host and White House correspondent that some of the images they received from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate are “quite disturbing.”

He also told Collins that there are “many, many photos of women” among them. Specifically, he said, “some are very disturbing of women and their conditions,” per Garcia, who added that lawmakers hope to release the photos in the “days and weeks” to come.

House Democrats have vowed to release additional photographs as they continue to pore through the thousands of files they received.
