A teacher in Kentucky is facing criminal charges after allegedly calling an underage student to plan a sexual encounter.
Krystal Sims, 30, is charged with procuring or promoting the use of a minor for sexual activity by electronic means following the alleged incident, which occurred in August, according to a copy of the uniform citation obtained by PEOPLE.
According to the citation, the male student recorded the phone call between the two — but didn’t record a subsequent video chat during which Sims allegedly called him while naked in the shower.
A detective with the Barren County Sheriff’s Office wrote in the citation that he met with the student on Oct. 2, one day after receiving information that Sims “communicated with an underage male juvenile for the purpose of meeting to have sex.”
The boy told the detective that he and Sims met when she was his substitute teacher, and that they stayed in touch after that by communicating on Snapchat.
The citation alleged that shortly after Sims accepted the boy’s Snapchat request, the two began planning to meet up for sex in Cave City, which is approximately 90 miles north of Nashville, Tenn.
On Aug. 22, the student allegedly taped his conversation with Sims, and during his meeting with the detective, he played the recording.
“A female is heard on the call asking if the juvenile is coming to meet with her when the call begins,” the detective wrote in the citation.
At some point, that call ended and the two then had a separate video call, the student claimed.
“The juvenile stated that in the video call he was able to see her exposed breast as she was nude in the shower,” the detective wrote.
He continued: “I also learned there were others present when this call was made and they also stated they could see the above female’s breast in the call.”
On that same day, the detective also spoke with Sims about her alleged conversation with the student.
Sims said that while working as a substitute teacher at the school, “several boys in the class tried to add her on social media but she never [accepted] any of them.”

She was then informed that the student had taped their phone call, and confirmed to police that it was her voice in the recording.
However, she allegedly told police she had only agreed to meet with the boy “so that he could apologize for the way he had acted in class,” the detective wrote.
She also said that the two never did meet outside of class and nothing physical ever transpired between the pair.
Deputies with the Barron County Sheriff’s Office arrested Sims later that same day, and she is scheduled to be arraigned on Oct. 8, according to her lawyer, Travis B. Lock.
If convicted, Sims could face a prison sentence of up to five years.
Lock told PEOPLE that his client plans to enter a not guilty plea to the charge when she appears in court, adding: “As with almost all matters that make their way into the criminal justice system, there is certainly much more information than that which has been reported at this juncture.”
