A Missouri father is facing several child sex crime-related charges after, authorities allege, he helped a 31-year-old man live with his teen daughter and gave him condoms.
Fredrick Clay Copping is accused of assisting Travis Kalchbrenner, 31, in his alleged sex crimes against Copping’s 15-year-old teenage daughter, according to warrants obtained by PEOPLE. Kalchbrenner is also facing charges on child sex crimes.
Deputies responding to a possible domestic incident at a Russellville, Mo., residence on Friday, March 14, encountered an intoxicated 15-year-old girl, according to a probable cause statement cited by ABC 17 and KJLU.
The girl, who is not named in court filings, allegedly told police she was 22 before deputies swiftly learned that she was just 15, per the document. Court records show Kalchbrenner was born in 1993.
Kalchbrenner said he met the teenager, whom he referred to as his “girlfriend,” a few years ago online and reconnected last year, the probable cause statement alleges. He communicated with the girl, who he says he thought was 22, on Discord.
During these interactions, Kalchbrenner also spoke with Copping, who later drove down to Florida to pick up Kalchbrenner so he could move in with them in Missouri, the statement alleges, per ABC 17.
Copping told police he did so because to him, Kalchbrenner “seemed like a nice guy,” per the statement.
Prosecutors say Copping gave his blessing to Kalchbrenner to sleep in the same room as his daughter, and even gave him condoms.
