A Texas man was arrested after allegedly stabbing his mother when she refused to give him her wallet, authorities said.
Joseph Anthony Abreu, 35, is accused of breaking into a Houston home and demanding his mother’s wallet on the afternoon of Saturday, Jan. 4, according to a news release shared by the Houston Police Department. When the mother refused, Abreu allegedly stabbed her, police said.
Paramedics who responded to the home transported the 58-year-old woman — whom police did not identify — to a hospital, where she was reported to be in stable condition, according to the release.

Police said Abreu fled the scene before officers arrived but was captured and arrested the following day. He is charged with aggravated assault of a family member and burglary with intent to commit another felony.
It’s unclear if Abreu has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.
