Three Missouri men are charged with murder after police located the body of a teenager 10 days after she was reported missing.
Kaniah Jennings, 18, was last seen in Hayti, Mo., on Nov. 3, the Hayti Police Department announced on Nov. 7.
Authorities found her body in rural Pemiscot County, Mo., the department said in an update on Friday, Nov. 14.
The prosecuting attorney’s office charged 18-year-old Blake Patrick, 34-year-old Kennan Peoples and 38-year-old Donald Peoples, Jr. with murder in connection with Jennings’ death, Hayti police announced over the weekend. (Online court records spell Kennan’s name as “Keenan).
The investigation into Jennings’ disappearance revealed the brutal conditions under which she was allegedly abducted and held.
Jennings was allegedly picked up by Kennan and Patrick on Nov. 3 from her home in nearby Portageville, according to a probable cause statement obtained by PEOPLE.
After returning to the Hayti residence where the men lived, Patrick allegedly told police that both he and Kennan had sex with Jennings and that Kennan “placed socks in Jennings’ mouth,” per the probable cause statement.
Patrick allegedly told police Jennings was tied up with a blanket that was placed over her head.
A redacted version of the probable cause statement revealed alleged text messages exchanged between Donald and Kennan on the evening of Nov. 3, which investigators believe referred to Jennings, who may have been held against her will that night.
In the exchange, Kennan allegedly messages Donald, asking him to “take your sweet time getting home” because Kennan was “playing with a woman tonight.”
Donald allegedly replied, saying, “Do your thang,” and asked about “the white boy.” Later, Kennan replied, “It’s a group effort.”

Jennings’ disappearance launched an intense search effort among friends and family, with supporters sharing updates on a Facebook page “Justice for Kaniah Jennings.”
“In this group we take pride in keeping Kaniahs memory alive! She was a senior at Portageville High School! She had so much more to live for!” reads a post on the page.
“Kaniah we will forever remember your name and we will not stop until the men that hurt you are behind bars for the rest of their lives and for you we will find out the truth,” reads the note.
In a GoFundMe set up to assist with her funeral and memorial expenses, her father said the family’s loss “has shattered our hearts, and we’re now left trying to give her the dignity, love, and farewell she deserves.”
