Teen Loses Vision in Eye After 'Malicious' Paintball Rampage on Halloween Night

A Chicago teen has lost vision in one eye after a marauding group of suspects allegedly drove around the area shooting paintball guns at random people on Halloween night, according to reports.

Police are searching for suspects who were caught on video shooting paintballs from high-velocity paintball guns from inside a car in the Southwest Side area of the city, CBS News reports.

Vicky Murillo, 19, was out with a friend when they were both hit with paintballs in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood, WLS reports.

“What they said was this car followed them around the block, and then, it made a U-turn. They stuck phones out the window, started recording and that’s when they shot the paintballs at them,” her brother, Adrean Murillo said, WLS reports.

After being struck, his sister and friend lay bleeding on the ground as paramedics and police rushed to help them.

“They were both on the floor crying and screaming, their hot chocolate next to them,” he said, ABC 17 reports.

“That was crazy to me because they were wearing pink, fluffy things. I don’t know who would target young women like that.”

Doctors believe the victim’s vision in one eye is permanently damaged, ABC 7 reports

“She was shot in the body I believe twice — on the face one time, which went and hit the eye,” Murillo said, CBS News reports.

“It’s really bad what they did to her.”

“Her eye globe was ruptured from the impact and is unlikely to have her vision restored,” he wrote in a GoFundMe he started to help her family with the medical bills they are facing.

Murillo said his family later learned that there were other paintball attacks in surrounding suburbs.

“I got reached out [to] by a detective in Cicero, and I got reached out to by the police department in North Riverside, and both of them said that, ‘Hey, we’re going to loop in your case with ours — same vehicle, same color,'” said Murillo.

“It was malicious. They knew what they were doing,” he said. “I mean, they went out that day specifically for that reason.”

In the GoFundMe Murillo started, he wrote, “We are only looking to cover some of the medical expenses and time off my parents and I are having to take off work to stay at the hospital for an ongoing amount of days. The shooter is still at large as I am working with detectives to find his residence. We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers, and thank you to all who donate ❤️”
