Teen Boy Riding Bike Fighting for His Life After Alleged Hit-and-Run: 'That's My Baby'

A teenage boy is fighting for his life in the hospital after an alleged hit-and-run in Texas.

The 16-year-old boy was riding a bike along East Louetta Road in Spring, Texas, a suburb of Houston, on Nov. 3 when he was struck by a car traveling in the same direction, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement shared with PEOPLE on Nov. 14.

“The impact caused the male juvenile to separate from the bicycle and land in the roadway,” the statement read. 

The sheriff’s office said the driver fled the scene in a white or gray sedan. They added that the case remains ongoing and that investigators are trying to obtain surveillance video from surrounding businesses to help identify the make and model of the vehicle.

While authorities did not identify the boy or share his condition, he was identified by his mother as 16-year-old Devin Yelle, Fox 13 Houston reports. The boy’s mother, Tiffany Trusty, told the outlet that her son is in the hospital fighting for his life after suffering a traumatic brain injury.

“That’s my baby and you just left him on the side of the road like an animal,” Trusty said, addressing the alleged hit-and-run driver, per Fox 13.

The boy, who is still able to speak, thanked the public for their well wishes in a message obtained by the outlet, adding, “Please catch the person who did this.”
