The Illinois teacher accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old student says her husband was aware of the boy, whom she allegedly referred to as a “stalker.”
Christina Formella, a 30-year-old special education teacher from Downers Grove, Ill., is charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of criminal sexual assault against a minor, according to authorities.
Formella was arrested after authorities say the victim’s mother found text messages between her son and Formella that allegedly detailed a sexual relationship, a claim she has denied.
PEOPLE previously reported on court documents filed by prosecutors, in which it’s alleged that Formella, who is married and also worked as a soccer coach at the school, kept a “memoir” on her phone’s notes app detailing her apparent anger at the teen.
The documents also allege that upon being questioned by police, Formella referred to the teen as a “stalker” and said that her husband was aware of the teen’s existence. Formella denied ever having sex with the teen, according to the documents.
“Throughout her interview, [Formella] tried to paint [the victim] as her ‘stalker’ and claimed that her husband was aware, but oddly enough, her husband told detectives that he knows nothing about [the victim] beyond his status as a soccer player, and he confirmed that he does not go through [Formella’s] phone,” prosecutors wrote in the filing.
In the “memoir,” Formella allegedly wrote that the boy “cheated on me” and called him “disgusting.”

“We will never ever be together again,” Formella allegedly wrote. “I’m not a second choice. I’m the best thing you’ll ever have even with all of my mistakes.”
When police confronted Formella about the notes in her phone, she allegedly said it was an outlet for her anxiety and any references to sexual activity were referring to her husband, according to the court filing.
The filing states that Formella claims the texts that were found were sent by the victim himself after she claimed he took her phone in class and then deleted the messages on her phone while saving them on his for “blackmail.”
