A suspect in Maryland was killed Tuesday by a SWAT sniper after allegedly holding a woman at gunpoint and shooting a Baltimore police officer in the leg during a burglary call.

The incident took place at a home on the 6200 block of Park Heights Avenue in northwest Baltimore, according to the Baltimore Police Department.

Officials said the 36-year-old officer, who has been with the department for 13 years, suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and is in stable condition.

Shortly after gunfire rang out, a Baltimore SWAT sniper shot the suspect, who was holding a young woman at gunpoint, according to authorities.

Another woman was taken to the hospital after jumping out of a window during the incident.

Officials said both women were family members of the suspect.

The home is located near the Agudath Israel of Baltimore and Tiferes Yisroel synagogues.

However, Baltimore police told Fox News Digital in an email that the shooting “was NOT at a synagogue or religious institution.”

Baltimore police remain at the scene and multiple streets are closed.
