Newly released video from the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office allegedly shows a U.S. Marine Corps veteran abusing his stepson over the course of two days in May, according to several new reports.
The surveillance videos allegedly show Zachary Perez abusing his stepson by placing a dog leash around the child’s neck and yanking him to the ground, kicking and punching him, and forcing him to walk around carrying a backpack full of rocks, local NBC 6, WPLG, and CBS News Miami reported this week.
Perez, 42, was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse in May but has since been released on house arrest, according to WPLG. He is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 28.
The veteran can allegedly be seen on video holding a pink dog leash that appears to be wrapped around his 6-year-old stepson’s neck, according to NBC 6, citing the video shared by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office. The video also reportedly shows Perez kicking the young boy and yelling at him, the outlet reported.
CBS News Miami also reported that an arrest report alleges that Perez punched the 6-year-old boy in the face a handful of times, bruising the young boy’s face.
Perez pleaded not guilty to the child abuse charge, according to NBC 6. Since his arrest, the state attorney’s office alleges that it has received a number of other calls from other victims who claim Perez has abused them in the past, including from his 14-year-old daughter.
Lily Wisset, an Assistant State Attorney with the Miami-Dade office, described the former marine as “a ticking time bomb” in court earlier this year, according to NBC 6.
