  • The incident was filmed by a friend of the man being chased by the officer
  • The officer has been suspended by the Baltimore Police Department

A shocking video appears to show a Baltimore police officer trying to run over a pedestrian with his car.

The video begins with the man filming the incident telling a police officer that he had no reason to stop his friend, who had begun walking away down an alley.

The officer then gets into his squad car and rapidly accelerates toward the pedestrian, who changes direction and attempts to avoid the car.

The video shows the officer turn toward the man and come very close to striking him as the pedestrian sprints away from the vehicle.

The video ends after the officer crashed his car, having chased the pedestrian into traffic and then back off the road.

In a statement, the Baltimore Police Department said it was aware of the “concerning actions” of the officer. The officer has been suspended and the department has launched an investigation.

“What is seen in this video is not only disturbing, but alarming,” Police Commissioner Richard Worley said in a statement. “This is not how we expect our officers to behave and this incident does not reflect the values or standards of the Baltimore Police Department.”

WBAL spoke to the man who caught the video on camera, who said his friend was fine but had a banged up knee and is sore.
