  • Shannon McNease is accused of attempting to murder her infant daughter
  • McNease’s 8-week-old infant was hospitalized with 20 rib fractures
  • McNease allegedly wrote Facebook messages that revealed “homicidal intent”

A Washington mother was charged with attempted murder after authorities allege she tried to kill her 8-week-old infant, who suffered 20 rib fractures.

Shannon McNease is charged with attempted murder and assault of a child, according to Kitsap County, Wash., jail records.

The Bremerton Police Department said in a release that McNease’s daughter was taken to the hospital by her father on Aug. 7. The infant was “suffering from a brain bleed and multiple fractures in various stages of healing, indicating non-accidental trauma,” police said.

In addition to 20 rib fractures, the baby girl also had six metaphyseal fractures. Police alleged that the brain bleed was consistent with shaking an infant.

“It was determined the injuries most likely occurred while the infant was in the care of her mother, Shannon McNease,” Bremerton police alleged. “In addition, it was learned McNease had an online conversation with a friend revealing homicidal intent toward the infant.”

The child survived her injuries and is now in the care of other family members. McNease was arrested on Sept. 4.

It is not immediately clear if McNease has entered a plea or retained an attorney.

KIRO reported, citing court documents, that the online conversations referenced by police were alleged Facebook messages sent by McNease.

“She’s back on her BS again,” she allegedly wrote, the outlet reported. “I can’t stand her dude.”

The reported documents further alleged that McNease wrote, “Like I legit want to shake her to death or throw her on top of the floor so hard she dies,” while also writing that, “I adore her down to her bones.”
