- Sha’Carri Richardson’s boyfriend, fellow Olympian sprinter Christian Coleman, was also arrested on Jan. 29 after the gold medalist was charged with excessive speeding

- Officers also allegedly found drug paraphernalia inside Coleman’s vehicle
Sha’Carri Richardson’s boyfriend, fellow Olympian Christian Coleman, was arrested alongside the gold medalist on Jan, 29, according to the arrest affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.
Coleman, 29, was arrested for allegedly resisting during Richardson’s traffic stop in Winter Garden, Florida and police allegedly found drug paraphernalia inside his car, per the affidavit.
Richardson’s boyfriend — who defended her last August when she was arrested and charged with fourth-degree domestic violence assault after a verbal altercation with Coleman — allegedly arrived in his own vehicle at the scene shortly after she was pulled over for driving over 100 mph, and exited the car as officers were handling Richardson’s paperwork.
Police noted in the affidavit that Coleman failed to utilize his hazard lights despite being pulled over on the side of a highway and said he was “interjecting himself into the traffic stop that he was not involved with.”
When the reporting officer instructed Coleman to wait at his car, the track and field athlete allegedly dropped “an object in the grass” before he “started defending” Richardson “in an attempt to keep her from going to jail.”
Coleman was allegedly told by the officer that he “would be arrested” if he didn’t comply with the order to wait by his vehicle, per the affidavit.
“He continued to refuse to leave. At this point I put my hand on the male’s left bicep and directed him back towards his vehicle, which he started to comply with,” the officer alleged.
PEOPLE has contacted a representative of Coleman for comment. A rep for Richardson previously told PEOPLE they do not have a comment at this time.

He described it days later as a “sucky situation all round” and said he didn’t “feel like she should have been arrested” when questioned by reporters about the incident.
Coleman said Richardson “has things that she needs to work on for herself, of course,” adding, “I’m the type of guy who’s in the business of extending grace, and mercy and love.”
Richardson later issued a public apology to Coleman, writing, “I love him & I can’t apologize enough. My apology should be just as loud as my actions, honestly louder, to Christian. I love you & I am so sorry.”
