NEED TO KNOW
- Police in Kansas are seeking the public’s help to identify a woman in distress seen in a home-security footage
- The incident was captured on a Ring camera about 2 a.m. on Sunday, per police
- Authorities have not been able to match the woman’s description to any missing persons report since Oct. 1, or disturbance call in the area
Authorities in Kansas have announced a reward for information about a woman seen in home security footage being dragged away by a man as she screams and apparently tries to extricate herself from his grip.
The 20-second video, captured outside a residence in Wichita, Kan., was released by Wichita Police on Monday, Oct. 13.
The video begins with the man grabbing the woman from behind as she apparently struggles to break free. He forcefully wraps his arms around hers, holding her in place.
She screams — seemingly for help — as the man, in a black T-shirt and jeans, takes hold of her, drags her, and turns her around.
He continues down the driveway of the residence, seemingly in full control of the woman, before the two disappear from the view of the camera. The woman’s muffled screams are heard one more time before the video ends.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Oct. 14, Wichita police said the video was recorded early Sunday morning. That evening, officers responded to the location, where the homeowner showed them Ring doorbell camera footage capturing the incident at about 2 a.m.
Responding officers canvassed the area looking for leads, and checked for missing persons reports dating back to Oct. 1 as well as disturbance calls in the region, but did not come across information matching the woman’s description, police said on Tuesday.
Police are “operating under the assumption this is a legitimate incident,” Wichita police told reporters at the press conference, adding that their primary concern is the welfare of the woman in the video.
Police said they believe there is no danger to the greater community.
