A second suspect is now facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with the Feb. 5 death of Adan Manzano, the Kansas City Telemundo sports reporter found dead in a Louisiana hotel room while he was in New Orleans to cover the Super Bowl, police in Kenner, La., said.
Police said they have obtained an arrest warrant for Rickey White, 34, for the new charge after “continued investigative efforts” on Monday, May 5. White was already in custody at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna, La.
White was previously arrested for robbery and multiple counts of fraud. Kenner Police Department Chief Keith Conley previously alleged that White was an accomplice of Danette Colbert, 48, who was arrested on Tuesday, March 18.
The new update comes nearly seven weeks after Colbert was charged with second-degree murder in the 27-year-old reporter’s death. Colbert was previously charged with fraud and theft after she was allegedly caught using Manzano’s credit card.
She was also allegedly seen on surveillance footage leaving Manzano’s Kenner hotel alone about one hour after arriving there with him on the night of his death on Feb. 5. His cause of death was the combined toxic effects of Xanax and alcohol.
Conley said at a Feb. 7 press conference that Colbert has previously been accused of drugging and stealing from men in different parts of the country. Additionally, New Orleans police knew her as a “career criminal” who allegedly trawled for victims in the famed French Quarter.

On April 1, ABC News reported that a law enforcement source alleged that the pair had schemed via text message for years to drug and rob victims in multiple jurisdictions. Sources reportedly told the outlet that investigators have also turned up other victims.
“This is a national, multi-jurisdictional crime spree,” Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams told ABC News in April.
“For that reason, we’ve asked and have been working with our attorney general to run point. Hopefully, we’ll have a better shot at solving it that way,” Williams said. “This was not random. There’s a certain pattern with having drinks or food and then saying to the person they’ll help him back to their room.”
