Police in Northern England have issued an urgent appeal for information as they search for two men who entered a river following a pursuit.
According to a release from the Humberside Police in Hull, the two men were driving in a vehicle with “a defective rear light” on Friday evening, Dec. 5. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle for a routine check, but the vehicle failed to stop.
The officers then “engaged in a short pursuit,” following the vehicle to Charlotte Street, where the car “collided with a wall.”
The two men fled on foot and “are believed to have entered the River Hull” near Charlotte Street at around 8:30 p.m. local time.
Detective Inspector Andy Crawforth said in a statement, “Following reports of two men entering the water, a search was immediately launched to locate and identify them.”

“We are extremely concerned for their welfare and are conducting extensive lines of enquiries in an attempt to identify and locate them,” he continued. “So far, this has included searches by our patrol officers, the Coastguard, Humberside Fire and Rescue service and our specialist Underwater Search Team.”

Crawforth stated that local residents should expect to see “an increased police presence” in and around the area as the search continued.
“To help with these enquiries, I would ask anyone who believes they know who these men are or who thinks that someone they know went missing yesterday evening to contact us immediately,” he added.
Crawforth also asked for anyone who might have witnessed the incident, or who has CCTV or doorbell footage from Friday night, to contact Humberbridge Police.
