NEED TO KNOW

  • Rob Reiner’s comments on Piers Morgan Uncensored in September on the murder of Charlie Kirk, which he noted was “unacceptable,” have resurfaced online
  • This comes after President Donald Trump shared a controversial response to the director’s death, claiming that he died “reportedly due to the anger he caused others”
  • Morgan, Jimmy Kimmel, Whoopi Goldberg and others have condemned the president’s comments over Reiner’s death

Rob Reiner’s comments on the murder of conservative pundit Charlie Kirk have resurfaced following President Donald Trump’s recent controversial remarks on the Hollywood director’s death.

Videos have been circulating social media showing The Princess Bride director’s response to Kirk’s death on Piers Morgan Uncensored after the president’s recent criticism of Reiner — who was found dead alongside his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, in their L.A. home on Sunday, Dec. 14.

Their son, Nick Reiner, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special allegation of using a knife on Tuesday, Dec. 16, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced in a press release. If convicted, he faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. The death penalty has also not been ruled out in the case.

In his Truth Social in response to Reiner’s death, Trump, 79, wrote that he believed the “once very talented movie director and comedy star” died “reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.”

People compared the president’s response with the All in the Family star’s more solemn reaction to Kirk’s death despite being on an opposing political side. (Reiner was a vocal liberal and critic of Trump, while Kirk was a conservative political activist who supported Trump.)

During a September episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored, Reiner called the murder of Kirk an “absolute horror,” and noted that he had “unfortunately [seen] the video” of Kirk being shot during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

“It’s beyond belief what happened to him,” Reiner told Morgan at the time. “That should never happen to anybody. I don’t care what your political beliefs are. That’s not acceptable. That’s not a solution to solving problems.”

On Monday, Dec. 15, Morgan, 60 re-shared the clip on X, writing, “As President Trump trashes Rob Reiner following his murder, a reminder of how Reiner responded on my show to the murder of Charlie Kirk.”

In a separate X post he also condemned Trump’s comments on Reiner’s death, writing over a screenshot of the president’s Truth Social post: “This is a dreadful thing to say about a man who just got murdered by his troubled son. Delete it, Mr President @realDonaldTrump.”

This comes as several celebrities and lawmakers criticized the president for his comments on Reiner, including Jimmy Kimmel, Whoopi Goldberg and Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

On Monday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel slammed Trump’s comments for being “hateful and vile” and said that the president showed a lack of “compassion and leadership” by releasing his statement.

Goldberg echoed similar sentiments on The View, saying, “I don’t understand the man in that White House. Because he talks so much about Charlie Kirk and caring, and suddenly this is what he puts out. Have you no shame? No shame at all? Can you get any lower? I don’t think so.”

Greene also denounced Trump’s comments on the death of Rob and his wife, Michele, saying, “This is a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies.”

“Many families deal with a family member with drug addiction and mental health issues. It’s incredibly difficult and should be met with empathy, especially when it ends in murder,” she added.
