Beloved director Rob Reiner and his wife of 36 years, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their home in Los Angeles on Sunday, Dec. 14. The day after the discovery, the couple’s 32-year-old son Nick Reiner was arrested on suspicion of murder after being taken into custody at 9:15 p.m on Sunday.
Multiple sources who spoke with family members told PEOPLE that Nick killed Rob, 78, and Michele, 70. Their youngest child, daughter Romy, 28, who lives nearby, found them and paramedics rushed to the Brentwood mansion around 3:30 p.m. local time.
Nick is being held without bail. He was located by police near the campus of the University of Southern California, around six hours after his parents’ bodies were discovered. His first court hearing is set for Tuesday, Dec. 16.
