A Georgia woman is facing multiple charges after she allegedly fatally struck a pedestrian, sped off and then crashed into a truck, according to police.
On Wednesday, June 11, Portia Taylor, 30, was arrested on charges of homicide by vehicle, hit and run resulting in serious injury or death and driving under the influence in connection with the fatal May 18 incident that killed 71-year-old Michael Crabtree.
According to an Atlanta Police Department incident report, Taylor was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima at “a high rate of speed” around 6:26 a.m. after she left the strip club where she worked when she allegedly struck Crabtree, who was in the middle of the road while crossing about 10 feet away from the crosswalk.
“The Nissan Altima did not stop after the collision,” according to the report, and allegedly “fled the scene” before getting on the Interstate 75. Crabtree died at the scene.

Just minutes later, at 6:35 a.m., Taylor allegedly was involved in another hit-and-run crash on Interstate 75 and was later arrested by Cobb County police and charged with possession of marijuana, driving under the influence of alcohol and illegal substances, and an open container violation, per the report.
Taylor allegedly crashed into a truck, WSB-TV reported.
According to his online obituary, Crabtree, who was known as TC, was in Atlanta on business.
“Though TC’s life was cut short by a senseless accident, his legacy of faith, love and unwavering dedication will continue to shine through the lives he touched,” his obituary read.
“TC lived a life filled with love, laughter, and deep devotion to his family, friends, and faith,” his obituary said. “He had a quick wit, a generous heart, and a larger-than-life presence that made everyone feel welcome. He was deeply devoted to his family and lived each day with integrity, gratitude, and love.”
It’s unclear if Taylor has entered a plea or retained an attorney.
