- Melinda Schoon Rose, 53, and Ryan Rose, 46, were found slain in their Colorado home
- Police say they had been called to the residence hours prior regarding a domestic violence incident
- The shooting occurred while police were working on an arrest warrant for Ryan
A Colorado woman who was found slain in her bedroom over the weekend was seemingly shot by her husband as police were preparing a warrant to arrest him.
Melinda Schoon Rose, 53, was found dead in the bedroom of a Garfield County, Co., home by police on Saturday, July 12, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Her husband, 46-year-old Ryan Rose, was found dead on a recliner in the living room, the statement said, adding that his wounds indicated he died by suicide.
Police did not name the couple in their statement, but the deceased were identified by the coroner’s office, according to The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, KREX and the Post Independent.
In their statement, the sheriff’s office said law enforcement had been called to the residence earlier that day for a domestic violence incident. By the time police arrived, Ryan had escaped the location by foot.
Police determined that they had probable cause to arrest him for Domestic Violence, Harassment and Protection Order Violation. They urged Melinda to leave the residence and find a safe location until they could find her husband, but she reportedly declined to do so, the sheriff’s office said in the statement.
Deputies returned from the residence and began putting together information for an arrest warrant against Ryan for domestic violence. As they were doing so, the emergency dispatch of Garfield County received a call that Ryan was back at the residence and “was trying to locate a firearm inside the house,” per the statement.
The call disconnected and deputies rushed to the residence where they found the couple fatally shot.

In a GoFundMe set up to assist with funeral costs, Melinda’s daughter Masi Basile said her family is devastated by her killing.
