A Florida couple is facing criminal charges after a teenage boy alleged to police that they left him on the side of a busy highway with two bags containing cash and guns and telling him to take care of the house before speeding away.
Bradley Leon Guerrero Santos, 36, and Roseanella Mendola Borja, 35, of North Port, were arrested on Oct. 3 in Wauchula, and charged with neglect of a child without great bodily harm, according to Sarasota County online jail records.
Santos has also been charged with allowing a juvenile to have possession of a firearm.
As of Thursday, they remain held in the Sarasota County Jail on a $500,000 bond each.
The alleged crime came to authorities’ attention on Oct. 1, when police responded to a 911 call about a teenage boy walking along Interstate 75, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.
The boy, whose identity has not been made public because he is a minor, told an officer that he was riding in a 2006 Toyota 4Runner with Santos, Borja and an 8-year-old sibling when they pulled over and told him to get out, according to the affidavit.
The boy, whose relationship with the couple is unclear, told police that when he got home from school that day, the two of them were quickly packing, “frantically” throwing clothes into duffel bags and into their vehicle.
