  • The parents of a 2-month-old girl were accused of murder and subjecting their child to “unimaginable abuse”
  • Kaylee Fontenot and Taylor Broussard were both taken into custody in Opelousas, La., after their daughter was found not breathing
  • Broussard remained at large for several days before police said he turned himself in

Two Louisiana parents are in custody after they were accused of killing their 2-month old infant.

The Opelousas Police Department said it arrested the mother of the infant after the 2-month-old girl was found not breathing on Oct. 25.

The infant was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead. Police said the girl suffered serious injuries, including broken rib bones and a severed lower spine, while also showing signs of extreme dehydration and malnourishment.

Investigators said they determined that the infant’s parents, Kaylee Fontenot and Taylor Broussard, had exclusive custody of the child since her birth.

Police obtained arrest warrants for both parents on charges of first-degree murder, cruelty to juveniles and second-degree battery, the department said.

Fontenot was taken into custody, police said, but Broussard remained at large for several days following the announcement of charges.

On Nov. 3, police said Broussard turned himself in and he was booked into St. Landry Parish jail.

“Our hearts are with this infant who suffered unimaginable abuse,” Opelousas police Chief Graig LeBlanc said. “This case is in its early stages, and our investigators are working tirelessly to uncover every detail. We ask the public for patience, cooperation, and assistance in helping us pursue justice.”
