Outkast rapper Big Boi is mourning the loss of his uncle, who was fatally shot following a road rage incident.
Two people have been charged in connection with the fatal June 16 shooting of Remoin Thomas Patton Sr. following what police describe as a road-rage incident in southwest Atlanta.
Patton was shot in the back during a verbal argument with another driver on Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard NW, according to an Atlanta Police Department press release.
After being struck, his vehicle crashed into a vacant house. No one inside the home was injured.
The victim, known as “Uncle Moonie” to family, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 62 years old.
On June 20, officers arrested 32-year-old Janisha Crumbley and charged her with hindering the apprehension of a criminal. Jabyrion Crumbley, 18, surrendered to police on July 2 and was booked on charges including murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, per online jail records. He remains in custody without bail as of Friday, July 4.
Police arrested 32-year-old Janisha Crumbley on June 20 during a traffic stop four days after the accident. She was charged with hindering the apprehension of a felon, was booked on June 21, and released on a $30,000 surety bond the following day, per online records.
In a statement to WSB-TV, Big Boi identified the victim as his uncle and shared his heartbreak over the killing.
“Everybody who knows Uncle Moonie heart aches. He wasn’t just ‘My’ Uncle, he was Unk to all that met him.” he said. “A moment of rage has in totally pierced the heart of my family forever.”

Patton was described by relatives as a husband, father, grandfather and pillar in his community. No motive has been publicly released.
