A North Carolina woman was arrested in connection with the death of a 16-month-old child who died at a daycare facility.
Alexandra Coffey, 29, is facing a charge of involuntary manslaughter in the death of the girl.
Officers from the Lenoir Police Department were called to Creative Beginnings shortly before 3 p.m. on Monday, May 19 in response to a report of an infant in cardiac arrest.
When officers and first responders arrived, they discovered the infant unresponsive. After life saving measures were initiated, the girl was taken to Caldwell UNC Healthcare, where she died.
Two days later, on May 21, police arrested Coffey, an employee at the daycare facility, “for her involvement in the child’s death,” per a police press release.
Coffey was taken into custody and released on a $500,000 bond.

The infant’s mother told WBTV that it was her daughter’s first day at daycare and that she got a call from the day care informing her that her daughter never woke up from nap time.
The same day of the arrest, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services suspended the license of Creative Beginnings and ordered the facility to shut down, per WCNC.
Coffey’s attorney could not be reached for comment.
A probable cause hearing is scheduled for next week.
