On the same day they informed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s family of his murder in New York City, police in Maple Grove, Minn., also investigated a bomb scare at the slain executive’s home.
Thompson was fatally shot just before 6:45 a.m. ET of Wednesday, Dec. 4, by a masked man outside the New York Hilton Midtown.
A Maple Grove police computer-aided dispatch (CAD) report obtained by PEOPLE notes that a New York Police Department called the Minnesota department just before 8:15 a.m. CT requesting that they notify Thompson’s next-of-kin, his wife, Paulette Thompson.
Hours later, Maple Grove police say that a bomb threat was received at around 7 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson’s residence. No suspicious devices or items were found. Police said the incident appears to have been a hoax and they are investigating.
A CAD report of the incident reveals that Maple Grove’s city attorney received the threat in an email. The email claimed that a pipe bomb had been dropped off.
A bomb squad was deployed to the location but did not find any explosives. Police interviewed several people at the scene, including family members, all of whom said they hadn’t seen anything suspicious.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Brian and Paulette Thompson had been separated for years before his murder and that the UnitedHealthcare CEO lived in a separate residence close to the home where his wife and two sons live.
Paulette spoke to NBC News on Wednesday and said that prior to his death, Brian had been receiving threats.

“Yes, there had been some threats basically I don’t know, a lack of coverage? I don’t know details,” Paulette told the outlet. “I just know that he said there were some people that had been threatening him.”
The NYPD is still searching for the man who killed Thompson, who fled the scene on a bicycle. On Thursday, Dec. 4, the department released pictures of an unidentified “person of interest” wanted for questioning.
