A 4-year-old girl in Afton, Okla., died after being accidentally shot in the chest with a handgun.
Investigators believe the shooting was accidental, and the case remains under review, per KSNF, KSN 16 and KGGF Radio.
Weather prevented a medical helicopter response, and the girl was instead taken to a hospital in the Miami, Okla., area before she died, according to the outlets, who also reported that the incident took place in the child’s home.

“Our school community is grieving an unimaginable loss this evening — the passing of an Afton Elementary School student,” Superintendent O. Jay Bowen wrote in a letter to families, adding that counseling resources would be available to students. He encouraged parents to reach out if children needed support processing the death.
No charges have been announced, per the outlets.
