NEED TO KNOW

  • The suspect accused of killing prominent right-wing activist Charlie Kirk is believed to have been seen in door security footage traveling in an Orem, Utah neighborhood hours before the shooting on Sept. 10
  • Robinson allegedly shot Kirk from a building 200 yards away during a Turning Point USA rally on the Utah Valley University campus
  • Officials have yet to detail a motive for the violence

The 22-year-old man accused of killing Charlie Kirk is believed to have been captured on a door security camera in the hours before the assassination.

Tyler Robinson was arrested after authorities allege he fatally shot Kirk, a prominent right-wing activist, from a building 200 yards away during a Turning Point USA rally on the Utah Valley University campus in Orem on Sept. 10.

According to the footage, obtained by LiveNow from Fox and published on Sept. 14, a gray Dodge Challenger that officials believe Robinson drove to campus that day can be seen traveling through a neighborhood in Orem around 8:23 a.m. — about four hours before the deadly shooting.

More than an hour later, the camera captures a man, wearing a maroon T-shirt and light-colored shorts, walking past the house.

Officials previously said at a press conference that surveillance footage showed the shooter arriving at Utah Valley University’s campus at 11:52 a.m., just before the shooting, which took place at about 12:20 p.m.

Footage also showed a man running away from the scene, jumping down from the roof before fleeing into a wooded area off campus. Recovered evidence includes a bolt-action rifle and forensic impressions lifted from the rooftop, including palm and forearm imprints and footwear marks.

Robinson has not been officially charged but is being held on suspicion of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily harm and obstruction of justice, per a probable cause affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.

While officials have yet to detail a motive for the violence, information continues to emerge about him.

According to Cox, some of the bullet casings allegedly belonging to Robinson were engraved with seemingly anti-fascist messages as well as references to gaming culture. Cox added that Robinson had become “more political in recent years” and mentioned to family that Kirk was coming to Utah Valley University prior to the shooting.

“They talked about why they didn’t like him and the viewpoints that he had,” the governor said, adding that the suspect said that “Kirk was full of hate and spreading hate.”

State voter records also showed Robinson has not voted in the past two general elections and is registered as an unaffiliated voter, PEOPLE previously reported. Robinson was also enrolled in the electrical apprenticeship program at Dixie Technical College.

Over the years, Kirk had been a prominent voice in the right-wing movement and became a close ally of President Trump, even giving a speech at his inauguration in January 2025.
