An Indianapolis man has been sentenced to more than six decades in prison for a November 2023 murder.
Ousman Gasama was found dead and “sitting upright” on the entry stoop of an Indianapolis, Ind. residence on Thanksgiving Day that year, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. Authorities apprehended Efrem Edmondson soon afterwards, who was convicted of murder in September 2025.
Officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responding to the residence on Nov. 23, 2023 found Gasama on the stoop deceased from gunshot wounds, per the statement. Officers followed a “trail of blood” into the apartment where Gasama was shot, and found four witnesses, blood droplets and cartridge casings.
Investigators learned that Gasama was killed following an argument with Edmondson. Several sources told police the two had an ongoing feud and that Gasama had concerns about his safety as a result, the statement said.
Tensions had been brewing between the two, and on the day of the incident, it was over a bottle of liquor, the Indianapolis Star, WTHR and FOX 59 previously reported, citing an affidavit.

Edmondson was convicted of murder and possession of firearm by a serious violent felon following a two-day trial last month, according to the prosecutor’s office.
He was sentenced to 67 years behind bars.
“What occurred in that apartment should have never even happened,” said Prosecutor Ryan Mears at sentencing, per the statement. “We cannot allow simple disagreements to evolve into deadly violence. When the defendant pulled that trigger, he took Mr. Gasama’s life and now must face the consequences of that decision.”
