Police in Washington State have arrested a 15-year-old in connection with the killing of the child’s family members earlier this week.
Two adults and three juveniles were found fatally shot in their Fall City, Wash., home early morning on Monday, Oct. 21, the King County Sheriff’s Office previously told PEOPLE.
The parents of the child, Mark Humiston, 43, and Sarah Humiston, 42, were among those killed, according to reports.
Police have not announced the names of the deceased, but KOMO News spoke with one victim’s mentor, Rhea Robertson, who identified the parents. The Medical Examiner’s office told PEOPLE their office has not released the identities of the victims.
The investigation began on Monday after King County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of a possible suicide around 5 a.m. at the residence, the sheriff’s office previously told PEOPLE.
When they arrived at the scene, however, responding officers found several victims dead in what were determined to be homicides, per the sheriff’s office.
Later on Monday, authorities told PEOPLE that the victims included two adults and three juveniles, and that a child had been taken into custody.
Mark Humiston was an engineer, per KING 5 and his own LinkedIn page. A colleague at the company where he worked told the outlet in a statement that they are “blindsided and saddened by the tragic events.”
“Mark’s leadership and vision were integral within our firm, and he will be greatly missed,” read part of the statement, adding that Mark was a “respected colleague, mentor, and friend.”
Speaking to KOMO News, Robertson said the family seemed “perfect,” with a hardworking father and devoted mother. The children were being homeschooled, several neighbors told KING 5 and KOMO News.
“You thought they were perfect,” Robertson told KOMO News. “From the outside they looked perfect to me.”

One member of the family survived the attack, per the sheriff’s office. KOMO News reported the survivor is a teenage girl who sought help from neighbors. A representative from the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she was initially taken, told PEOPLE she was in “satisfactory condition and not in an ICU,” and has since been discharged.
The teen suspect has yet to be charged, KOMO News, KING 5 and KIRO 7 report. The prosecutor’s office did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comments.
