Authorities released the mugshot ot Tyler Robinson, 22, after he was arrested late Thursday — 33 hours after Charlie Kirk was shot during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University, authorities said at a press conference on Friday, Sept. 12.
Robinson was booked into the Utah County Jail but has not yet been formally charged.
Investigators say the single shot was fired from a campus rooftop 200 yards away from Kirk, the co-founder of Turning Point USA. Video released by authorities shows a figure running across the roof and fleeing after the gunfire.
Recovered evidence includes a bolt-action rifle and forensic impressions lifted from the rooftop, including palm, a forearm imprint and footwear marks, People previously reported.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said at Friday’s press conference that a family member of Robinson’s family reached out to a family friend saying that Robinson had “confessed to them or implied” that he’d committed the shooting. That friend in turn contacted the Washington County sheriff’s office on Thursday.
Robinson was arrested at about 10 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.

Per Cox, there were inscriptions on bullet casings allegedly belonging to Robinson, including one on an unfired casing reading, “Hey fascist, catch,” and another one on an unfired casing reading, “If you read this you are gay lmao.”
A reported law enforcement bulletin from early in the investigation seemed to falsely describe the engravings as expressing “transgender ideology.”

Cox also said there were messages on the Discord app sent by Robinson about the need to “retrieve a rifle from a drop point.” Cox later added authorities don’t have any information that might lead to any additional arrests.
Kirk was addressing an outdoor crowd on campus for his “America Comeback Tour” event when he was struck and collapsed about 20 minutes into the program, prompting a large law-enforcement response and a multi-agency investigation.
