Authorities in New Jersey are seeking the public’s help for information after a woman was found dead in what is now being investigated as a homicide.
Police responded to a report of an unresponsive woman at an Atlantic City, N.J. residence on Saturday, Oct. 11, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement. Authorities found Christina Burdette, 34, and she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
An autopsy by the Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the nature of her death as homicide, but the cause of death was not stated in the press release.
While further details on the circumstances surrounding her death were not immediately available, Burdette’s family told 6ABC that her body had visible bruises and her head was wrapped in gauze.
“They said she looked like she was in a fight,” the victim’s sister Nicole Burdette said, per the outlet, adding that while the family “doesn’t want to point fingers,” they find the situation “very sketchy.”
Christina’s family says she leaves behind her two children, ages 3 and 6, who are now orphaned as their father died a few years ago, 6ABC reported. Nicole told the outlet that the residence where Christina’s body was found belongs to a relative of the deceased father, but she does not know why Christina was there.
Police have not made any arrests or announced charges against anyone as of Wednesday, Oct. 15.

She is being remembered by her family as a devoted mom who had a sweet and quiet soul.
“She didn’t bother anybody. She was mainly about her children,” Nicole told the outlet. “You would have thought, because she was so to herself and so angelic and her own little person, she would have died from old age.”
Her mother says she will fight for justice for her daughter as they search for answers.
“If it was your daughter or your son or something happened to your child or your kids, ya’ll would want the same exact help,” Nicole added, “and as a community we should all work together.”
