The parents and grandmother of a young boy in Lynwood, Calif., have been charged with his murder and torture. The boy’s father and grandmother didn’t show up to their first court appearance. His mother did, but she obscured her face from view.
The boy’s parents, Destiny Luckie Harrison and Daniel Alberto Monzon, and paternal grandmother, Ana Carcamo Zarceno, have been charged with one felony count each of murder, torture and child abuse resulting in death “with allegations that they caused willful harm resulting in death,” according to a news release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Monzon and Zarceno also face charges of being accessories after the fact, the office said.
Authorities found the body of the young boy, identified as Isaiah H., “in a cooler filled with ice,” the district attorney’s office said. The body was discovered in a Lynwood apartment complex on Tuesday, Oct. 28, after a resident of the building requested a welfare check, according to NBCLA.
Isaiah “was allegedly abused by his mother, father and paternal grandmother over a long period of time,” the district attorney’s office said, citing a criminal complaint. Court records indicate that the torture dated back to April 2025.
The boy “succumbed to his injuries” early on Friday, Oct. 24, days before his body was found in the cooler, the release states.
Isaiah’s parents, Harrison and Monzon, both 25, and grandma, Zarceno, 45, were arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 29, according to court records viewed by PEOPLE. They were charged on Friday, Oct. 31, the same day the three were scheduled to be arraigned in Compton, Calif., the district attorney’s office said.
Monzon and Zarceno did not show up before the judge on Friday, NBCLA reported, citing a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy. Monzon refused, and Zarceno claimed she was sick, according to the outlet.
Harrison did appear in court, however, though her defense attorney used manila file folders to cover her face from view of the press, NBCLA reported, including footage of the moment.

The district attorney’s office stated that Isaiah is “believed to be” 8 years old. Identifying the boy has proven difficult because both of his parents are accused of the murder, according to NBCLA. Authorities could not find any record that the child ever attended school, according to the L.A. outlet.

After Isaiah’s body was found, three other children — ages 16, 14 and 9 months — were taken from the same Lynwood apartment complex where it was discovered, according to NBCLA. One of the children was a witness in the case, the outlet reported, citing prosecutors.
Bail for Isaiah’s parents and grandmother is listed at $2 million, per court records viewed by PEOPLE. They are each facing 32 years to life in state prison, the district attorney’s office said.
