A pair of siblings who disappeared from Ohio in October were tracked down and found safe in an Iceland village this month.

The two children, ages 8 and 9, were reported missing to Canton, Ohio police by a family member on Oct. 25, the U.S. Marshals Service said in a statement.

According to the missing persons report, the children, who have not been publicly named, disappeared after their mother stopped taking her mental health medication.

The 34-year-old woman allegedly “abandoned” her apartment and the children stopped showing up at school, per the statement.

Investigators initially tracked the children to Denver, Colo., and later learned the woman and her children traveled to London, England, the U.S. Marshals Service said.

Police then tracked them to the island of Jersey in the English Channel, more than 200 miles south of London. The woman then allegedly took the children to a remote fishing village in Iceland, more than 2,500 miles from Jersey.

The name of the village has not been released, but local Icelandic authorities ultimately located the children at a motel in the capital city of Reykjavik.

The children were safe at the time they were located and have been placed with Icelandic social services as they wait to be handed over to trusted family members, authorities said.

The mother has been hospitalized and will be brought back to the U.S. after she recovers. It wasn’t immediately clear if she will be facing any charges.
