  • Police have obtained an arrest warrant against her brother-in-law Shahidul Islam in relation to the homicide after he was previously accused of pointing a gun at her in December
  • Authorities allege her husband Rashedul Islam fled the country soon after her killing

Authorities in Florida have issued an arrest warrant against a man months after his missing sister-in-law was found dead.

The victim, Monica Islam, briefly disappeared from Eustis, Fla., before her body was found at an intersection in nearby Mount Dora on May 2, Click Orlando, FOX 35 and WESH reported, citing Lake County authorities.

Her death was ruled a homicide, and the cause was determined to be a gunshot wound.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has now announced that they have obtained an arrest warrant in relation to the homicide against her brother-in-law Shahidul Islam, the outlets reported.

Shahidul, who has been in custody of immigration officials since May 6, will be transported to Lake County once that proceeding is settled, Lake County authorities said, per the outlets.

Monica, 44, was last seen leaving the Shell gas station where she worked as a cashier, according to Click Orlando and FOX 35.

Her daughter Rimi Islam said at the time that Monica did not have any animosities with anyone, FOX 35 reported.

Since then, police claim the investigation has revealed that Monica’s husband Rashedul Islam and his brother Shahidul Islam were involved in an alleged domestic violence incident with her in December 2024, FOX 35 and WESH reported.

Shahidul allegedly struck Monica and stole her jewelry and paperwork for property in her native Bangladesh, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office discovered, per the two outlets.

In the same incident, Shahidul allegedly pointed a gun at her, investigators said.

Rashedul allegedly fled the United States before an arrest warrant for him could be obtained.

Shahidul, who had previously been deported, was arrested on May 6 in New York by the U.S. Marshals Service. He is awaiting extradition to Lake County once his immigration matters are complete.
