- Michigan President Domenico Grasso condemned Moore’s alleged behavior, saying the institution has “no tolerance”
University of Michigan President Domenico Grasso said that the university has “no tolerance” for former football coach Sherrone Moore’s alleged relationship with a staff member.
On Wednesday, Dec. 10, “credible” evidence found that Moore, 39, allegedly engaged in an “inappropriate relationship” with a staff member. He was then fired with cause by the university. Hours later, the City of Saline Police Department detained him and he was then turned over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department.
Then, on Thursday, Dec. 11, Grasso issued a statement confirming that Moore was fired for cause. In the letter, addressed to Michigan “colleagues and students,” Grasso said Moore violated “University policy by engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.”
Grasso said Moore’s employment was “immediately terminated” following the findings from the university’s investigation.
“There is absolutely no tolerance for this conduct at the University of Michigan,” the statement reads. “This breach of trust by Coach Moore is painful for many in our community, first and foremost, the individuals directly involved in this situation.”
Grasso said the university maintains a “staunch commitment to a campus culture of respect, integrity and accountability,” adding that the University’s investigation is still ongoing.
