  • Katrina Maclean pleaded guilty to trafficking stolen human remains
  • The owner of the store Kat’s Creepy Creations used the remains obtained from the Harvard Medical School
  • Maclean said she transported the remains from Massachusetts to Pennsylvania

A woman from Bradford, Mass., has pleaded guilty to trafficking stolen human remains.

On Monday, Dec. 8, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced in a press release that Katrina Maclean, age 46,  pled guilty “before Chief United States District Judge Matthew W. Brann to interstate transport of stolen human remains.”

United States Attorney Brian D. Miller claimed that Maclean admitted to buying human remains from 2018 to 2022 which she knew were stolen from Harvard Medical School. Maclean transported the remains from Massachusetts to Pennsylvania, according to the release.

“Maclean also sold stolen human remains to others, including Jeremy Pauley, who previously entered a guilty plea to a felony information,” the release reads.

Authorities added that the remains had been stolen by Cedric Lodge who managed the morgue for the Anatomical Gifts Program at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Mass.

PEOPLE has contacted Harvard Medical School for comment.

According to the release, Lodge stole organs and other deceased body parts from 2018 to 2022.

The items had been “donated for medical research and education before their scheduled cremations.”

“Lodge at times transported stolen remains from Boston to his residence in Goffstown, N.H., where he and his wife, Denise Lodge, sold the remains to Katrina Maclean, and others, making arrangements via cellular telephone and social media websites,” authorities said.

They added, “On some occasions, Maclean transported stolen remains to Pennsylvania.”

The Lodges, Jeremy Pauley, Joshua Taylor, Andrew Ensanian, Matthew Lampi and Angelo Pereyra are among the other defendants who previously pleaded guilty.

“Lampi was sentenced to 15 months in prison and Pereyra was sentenced to 18 months,” the release stated. “Cedric Lodge, Denise Lodge, Joshua Taylor and Andrew Ensanian are still awaiting sentencing.”

Candace Chapman-Scott was also sentenced to 15 years in prison after stealing remains from her job at an Arkansas crematorium and selling them to Pauley in Pennsylvania.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Postal Inspection Service, and the East Pennsboro Township Police Department are investigating the case.

“Assistant U.S. Attorney Alisan V. Martin is prosecuting the case,” the attorney’s office said.

“The maximum penalty under federal law for this offense is 10 years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine,” they added. “A sentence following a finding of guilt is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.”

Katrina MacLean's Peabody shop Kat's Creepy Creations was located in 58 Mills in Peabody,

In 2023, Maclean’s store, Kat’s Creepy Creations, was raided by the FBI. Her Salem, Mass., home was also searched at the time. Maclean’s store created eerie dolls and figures, including real human remains.

At the time, prosecutors accused Maclean of buying two partially dissected heads for $600 from the former morgue manager at Harvard Medical School. She was charged with transporting stolen goods.
