  • Mark Sanchez was discharged from the hospital and booked in jail on Oct. 12, following an Oct. 4 stabbing incident
  • The former NFL quarterback, who is charged with a felony, was booked into the Marion County Jail in Indianapolis
  • Sanchez, who serves as a Fox Sports broadcaster, was arrested after being stabbed for his alleged role in a fight with a 69-year-old truck driver

Mark Sanchez has been discharged from the hospital and booked in jail following an Oct. 4 stabbing incident in Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) confirmed in an email to PEOPLE that the former NFL quarterback, 38, was released from custody and booked in jail on the morning of Sunday, Oct. 12.

Indianapolis outlet Fox 59 reported that Sanchez, a Fox Sports broadcaster, was booked into the Marion County Jail.

Sanchez faces one felony charge (battery resulting in serious bodily injury) and three misdemeanor charges (battery resulting in bodily injury, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication that endangers the life of another).

Fox 59 reporter Max Lewis wrote on X that Sanchez was booked at the jail “to be fingerprinted and have his mugshot taken,” which the judge ordered him to do before leaving Indiana.

A video of Sanchez, obtained by Lewis, showed him leaving the jail. “Right now, I am just focused on my recovery,” Sanchez said, adding that he’s appreciative of the first responders and hospital staff.

The athlete proceeded to thank his surgeon. “[She] saved my life, so I’m grateful for that,” he said. “I’m recovering slowly.”

PEOPLE reached out to a representative for Sanchez and the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) for additional information on Oct. 12, but did not receive immediate responses.

Sanchez was in Indianapolis to call a Colts game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Oct. 5. The night before, he allegedly got into an altercation with 69-year-old truck driver Perry Tole in a downtown alley that resulted in both men being hospitalized with serious injuries.

“Detectives believe this was an isolated incident between the two men and not a random act of violence,” IMPD said at the time.

The sports analyst initially faced three misdemeanor charges — battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication — and was arrested at an area hospital where he was being treated for stab wounds. The battery charge was later upgraded to a felony.

Indianapolis Police Chief Chris Bailey addressed the incident in an Oct. 6 press conference: “I don’t care who you are. I don’t care what you do for a living. I don’t care where you live. If you come into our city, commit violence, we will use all the tools that are at our disposal to hold you accountable,” he said.

Tole claimed he stabbed Sanchez out of self-defense after the former New York Jets quarterback allegedly began harassing him over a parking spot.

According to court documents, Tole told authorities that Sanchez — who was running wind sprints in the alleyway — climbed into the cab of his truck, smelled of alcohol and was slurring his speech.

Tole has filed a lawsuit against Sanchez and his employer, Fox Sports, for punitive and compensatory damages, CNN reported.

Sanchez’s family issued a statement to The Indianapolis Star, writing, “This has been a deeply distressing time for everyone involved. Mark and our family are incredibly grateful for the concern, love, and support we’ve received over the past few days.”
