Could this be the real-life Batman?
On Wednesday, Aug. 27, the Cape Coral Police Department revealed that they had help catching a burglary suspect from an unexpected vigilante — a neighborhood man dressed in his zip-up onesie Batman pajamas.
When authorities arrived at the scene of a home burglary in Southeast Cape Coral, Fla. at around 2 a.m., they were shocked to see that the suspect had already been detained by Kyle Myvett.
“CAPE CORAL MAN IN BATMAN PAJAMAS HELPS CATCH BURGLARY SUSPECT,” the department wrote in a post on Facebook.
In the statement, the department noted that Myvett “told detectives he had gone to bed when his home security cameras alerted him to someone breaking into his vehicle.” It continued: “Still dressed in his Batman pajamas, Kyle went outside to investigate and saw the suspect rummaging through his truck.”
Authorities added that the real-life Caped Crusader then found the suspect in his neighbor’s garage “and detained him until officers arrived.”

Myvett told WSAZ that he was asleep when his wife “noticed an alert on the phone.”
Speaking about his crime-stopping technique, he explained, “I grabbed a hold of their shirt and their right wrist, and I said, ‘Listen, don’t try to get away.’ ”
Police identified the burglar as 20-year-old Justin Schimpl, who is known to authorities “from prior investigations.”
“Detectives determined that Schimpl broke into Kyle’s vehicle, as well as his neighbors, and stole multiple items including two pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses valued at $300 each, cash, a woman’s wristlet, and more than $500 in gift cards,” officials said.

While the suspect claimed there was another man with him at the time of the crime, “the name of that male changed multiple times.”
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Helicopter and the Cape Coral Police Department K9 also searched the area and did not find anyone else, police said.
After his arrest, Schimpl was transported to the Lee County Jail and charged with two counts of Burglary of an Unoccupied Conveyance (Unarmed), a third-degree felony; two counts of Petit Theft Under $750, a first-degree misdemeanor; and one count of Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling, a second-degree felony.
“Thanks to a quick-thinking neighbor in his Batman pajamas, another burglary suspect was put behind bars,” the department concluded, sharing a photo of responding officers posing with Myvett in his heroic sleepwear.
Myvett told WSAZ that he did leave his truck unlocked overnight due to the relative safety of the neighborhood.
His bravery helped save the day, and that is a quality that Myvett recognizes in Batman over other fan-favorite comic book heroes.
“I don’t have a Superman pajama because he’s kind of — if you’re impervious and invincible, you’re not really brave,” he opined.
