A 22-year-old man was arrested after he trapped a 78-year-old woman in a car for days and forced her into making a bank withdrawal.
According to a Saturday, April 5, press release from the Honolulu Police Department, the woman, whose name has not been released, was restrained from leaving her vehicle by the 22-year-old for approximately three or four days.
Police said that on Sunday, March 30, the suspect brought the elderly woman to a bank and instructed her to withdraw money from her account.
During the process, the woman was able to inform bank employees of what was going on and they then contacted police to inform them of the situation.
While the suspect’s name was not released, the press release said they were “positively identified and arrested for kidnapping and robbery.”
The suspect was identified by WBZ NewsRadio 1030 as Fortune Zenn Lee Marchan. The Honolulu Police Department’s online arrest logs show that Marchan was arrested on Thursday, April 3, for kidnapping and robbery.

The department said that he was later charged with first-degree robbery, with bail set at $30,000. According to KITV, he remains in police custody pending investigation.
PEOPLE reached out to the Honolulu Police Department but did not immediately hear back.
In a statement to PEOPLE, the Bank of Hawaii said that the arrest took place outside of the Kaneohe Branch.

“While we are unable to comment on this active criminal investigation, Bank of Hawaii is pleased to report that our employees and customers are safe following the incident, and the branch remains open to service customers. We are cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation,” the Bank of Hawaii’s statement read.
