A Bronx woman was fatally stabbed and her boyfriend wounded in an attack that law enforcement sources say occurred after her boyfriend pulled his car over and stopped to urinate, according to multiple news reports.

In a statement shared with PEOPLE, the NYPD said the incident happened around 8:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Park Drive and City Island Road. The victim was identified as 30-year-old Anthonella Contreras Linarez, of the Bronx, per police.

Law enforcement sources told amNewYork that while the man was relieving himself behind some bushes, two suspects on mopeds approached the car and demanded money from Linarez.

The man allegedly told police that one of the suspects then stabbed Linarez after she denied their command, the New York Daily News reported. The man further claimed that he was slashed in the arm by one of the muggers when he returned to the car. The suspects then fled, he claimed, per the outlet.

Police said in the statement that Linarez was “stabbed multiple times about the body and a 44-year-old male was stabbed in the right forearm.”
