  • A 49-year-old man has pleaded guilty to murdering two women on Christmas Day, 2024 in England
  • Thames Valley Police said Jazwell Brown carried out the “brutal attack” on his own partner and a neighbor
  • Brown also stabbed a 17-year-old boy and a 29-year-old man, and injured a dog, during the attack, according to police

A man has pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing two women on Christmas Day in England.

In a news release, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the body responsible for prosecuting criminal cases in England and Wales, said Jazwell Brown, 49, murdered Joanne Pearson, 38, and Teohna Grant, 24, “without warning or provocation” within their shared apartment block in Milton Keynes, which is approximately 50 miles from London.

According to a Thames Valley Police news release, one of the women was Brown’s partner, while the other was his neighbor.

“Armed with a knife, 49-year-old Brown also tried to kill a 29-year-old man and a teenage boy,” the CPS noted. “Brown also stabbed Joanne’s dog, Tilly, during the incident. The dog, while injured, survived.”

The CPS added that Brown fled the scene following the attack, but was spotted by eyewitnesses and captured on CCTV. He was arrested on Christmas Day and charged on Dec. 27, 2024.

Brown pleaded guilty to the double murder following a hearing at Luton Crown Court on April 15, per the police release.

He also pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder, and one count each of possession of a knife in a public place and causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal. The 17-year-old boy and the 29-year-old man both suffered stab wounds, per the police.

According to the CPS, after being arrested, Brown made “several incriminating statements” while in custody, including saying, “I lost my cool tonight.” He also described the incident as “not self-defence, plain murder, it’s plain murder, not self-defence.”

A police forensic officer at the scene near an apartment block on Santa Cruz Avenue in Newton Leys, near Bletchley, Buckinghamshire, where two women, aged 38 and 24, have died and a man and a teenage boy suffered serious injuries following reports of a stabbing on Christmas Day

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Brangwin, of the Major Crime Unit, said in a statement, per the police release, “First and foremost, I would like to extend deepest condolences to the families of Joanne and Teohna who tragically died in this shocking incident on Christmas Day.”

“Jazwell Brown is a dangerous man and I am glad that he has pleaded guilty, accepting responsibility for his actions that day, but the deaths of Joanne and Teohna cannot be undone,” the statement continued. “This was a brutal attack on his own partner and neighbour, in their respective homes, where they should have been able to feel safe and secure.”

Celia Mardon of the Crown Prosecution Service added that the “inexplicable attack” had done “irreversible damage – robbing two women of their lives and seriously injuring two others.”

“While we may never know why Brown committed such mindless violence, we must remember the two lives that were needlessly lost,” Mardon added. “Our thoughts remain with the loved ones of Joanne and Teohna, and we hope that today’s result provides them with some closure.”

Brown will be sentenced on 22 May.
